Farm & Equine Animal Care Technician – Make a Difference for Rescued Horses and Livestock

Alaqua Animal Refuge, a nationally recognized nonprofit rescue and sanctuary on 100 acres in Freeport, Florida, is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician focused on farm animals and equines. We care for a variety of animals, including horses, goats, pigs, cows, sheep, and more—many of whom come from abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

This role is hands-on, physical, and incredibly rewarding for someone who wants to make a real difference.

What You'll Do

• Feed, water, groom, and monitor horses and farm animals daily
• Clean stalls, paddocks, pastures, and barns to maintain a safe, sanitary environment
• Assist with routine health care, farrier visits, and vet support
• Observe animal behavior and report health or behavioral concerns promptly
• Help with turnouts, enrichment, barn chores, and animal movement as needed
• Assist in intake and rehabilitation plans for rescued animals

What We’re Looking For

• Prior hands-on experience with horses and/or farm animals (required)
• Ability to safely handle animals of all sizes and temperaments
• Hardworking, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
• Physically fit and capable of lifting 50+ lbs, pushing wheelbarrows, etc.
• Team player with a strong sense of responsibility and animal compassion
